Banning Museum Summer Exhibition SoCalGRS
participated with the Banning Museum in commemorating the 150th anniversary of
the founding of the City of Wilmington, and celebrated the role of the city in
building the early Los Angeles transportation network.
The SoCalGRS exhibit featured three track loops, the first modeled Phineas
Banning’s Los Angeles and San Pedro RR, which was the first RxR in southern
California. Push-button controllers were provided to allow the public to operate
the first two loops, the third being automatic operations. An estimated 600
people toured the grounds, and our garden railroad exhibit sparked a lot of
interest, especially with the younger crowd.
